The Catalan doctors were called to strike this Tuesday by the Intersindical, a minority union, in what is the prelude to the two most intense days of mobilizations that are expected for tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday, since in this case the calling organization is the main union of doctors, Metges de Catalunya.
The first day has had a low follow-up, of around 1% of the templates -3% if only primary care is counted-, according to data from the Department of Health. The Intersindical has among its affiliates essentially nurses, assistants, orderlies and administrative personnel, with little presence of doctors.
The Department of Health of the Generalitat and Metges de Catalunya yesterday approached positions but not enough to reach an agreement, which they are still looking for today, on the eve of the strike that, for the moment.
Madrid rejects mediation to end the doctors’ strike
The Madrid Minister of Health, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, has rejected this Tuesday the proposal for mediation by three professionals of recognized prestige formulated by the Amyts union to seek a solution to the indefinite strike of Family doctors and pediatricians of Madrid Primary Care, which It started on November 21.
The Amyts strike committee asked by letter to resume the meetings to give “a negotiated and satisfactory solution”, but the counselor has called for “reflection” when the unemployment rate is 2.98% this Tuesday and has asked to reach an agreement “as soon as possible”.
In the negotiation with the strike committee, according to the counselor, the Community of Madrid has agreed to dedicate ten minutes per patient, limit the schedules to 35 daily patients per Family doctor and 25 per pediatrician and establish a system of remuneration for excess of patients treated by professionals during their shift due to extended working hours or on contrary shifts.
A close possibility of an agreement in Andalusia
The president of the Board, Juanma Moreno, has assured this Tuesday that the Andalusian Government and the Andalusian Medical Union (SMA) are “close” to reaching an agreement that could translate into the cancellation of the strike scheduled for next Friday in protest of The situation of Primary Care in Andalusia.
However, in that autonomous community there is already a strike underway, in this case called by the Primary Medical Union (SMP) with a follow-up this week and last week of less than 5 percent of the doctors (2.33 percent percent of the morning shift yesterday Monday), according to the Board.
Called off in Extremadura, Navarra pending meetings and the Valencian Community awaiting an agreement
In Extremadura, the negotiations between the regional government and the unions managed to stop the strike that was scheduled to begin on January 26 and 27 to demand better labor in the guards or in the number of patients per doctor, among others.
In the community of Navarra, the unions have called on family doctors to join the strikes as of February 1, although after the call, the regional government has opened an “intense agenda” of meetings to discuss the demands of the medical collective and the reinforcement of Primary Care.
They are also pending an agreement that avoids strikes in the Valencian Community, where it was agreed to postpone the strike called last week for March 6, April 3 and May 8 due to the current “assistance overload”.
