Logroño, (EFE).- The former President of the Government of Spain José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and the Rioja journalist Ángeles Espinosa will receive the II Alicia Izaguirre Awards granted by the PSOE La Rioja next Thursday, January 26.
These awards recognize the work and performance that personalities from La Rioja and other parts of Spain have carried out in defense of equality, the Riojan PSOE detailed this Saturday in a note.
The Socialist Party will reward this former president of the Government of Spain for the creation, during his term, of laws “so important for women” such as the Law on Effective Equality of Women and Men.
This rule extended paternity leave to 15 days, forced political parties to present lists with at least 40 percent women, and promoted parity in the management of companies, with the aim of “laying the foundations of all the advances achieved by feminism”, have recalled the socialists.
At the regional level, they have decided to reward the figure of the journalist from El País Ángeles Espinosa, for her long career, the prestige achieved as a correspondent in the Middle East and work characterized by the defense of freedom and women’s rights.
For the PSOE, Espinosa is a “benchmark for all women journalists who dream of repeating their steps.”
