Although the manager of Rácing, Rubén Capria, only acknowledged “contact with Paolo Guerrero” and did not confirm any other details, Argentine media place the veteran striker in full flight to Buenos Aires.
The 39-year-old international born in Chorrillos would arrive free at the ‘Academy’, news that was released on the same day that the Racing Club disputed the International Super Cup in Abu Dhabi with fellow Argentine Boca Juniors.
After forging his career in Germany at both Bayern Munich and Hamburg, Guerrero played for Corinthians (2012-2015), Flamengo (2015-2018), Inter de Porto Alegre (2019-2021) and Avaí ( 2022).
It remains to formalize
If his signing for the ‘Academy’ is confirmed, the historic goalscorer for the Peruvian team, winner of an Intertoto Cup with Hamburg, a Club World Cup with ‘Fla’ and a South American Cup Winners’ Cup with Corinthians, will fight for a place in the offensive of the team led by Fernando Gago with Maximiliano Romero and Nicolás Reniero.
His arrival would fill the void left by Enzo Copetti, who recently signed for American Charlotte.
According to local media, Guerrero’s contract will be for one year and for productivity, due to his recent inactivity, since in 2022 he added just 427 minutes in ten games without scoring a goal during his time at Avaí Futebol Clube.
His last game was on October 2, 2022, when he played just 22 minutes against Atlético Goianiense. He then suffered from the injury to his right knee, the same one in which he suffered a torn ligament in 2020 and which led him to undergo surgery at the end of 2021.
