Madrid (EFE).- The Spanish Association of Consumers (Asecom) has demanded this Friday measures to stop the outbreak of ringworm and has called for information campaigns on disinfection in hairdressers and inspections in these establishments to ensure compliance with the regulations.
In a statement in line with the increase in cases of fungal head infections, “scalp ringworm”, detected in hairdressers by the Spanish Academy of Dermatologists and Venereology, Asecom has asked the health authorities for measures to “abort the contagion and that it does not become a public health problem.
The detected cases have occurred mainly in adolescents who go to the hairdresser for haircuts by degrading or shaving.
The consumer association has warned of the probability that the contaminated shaving material is shared among the different clients of some of the hairdressers who would not be taking into account the standards for disinfection of the material.
In the statement, consumers have been convinced that most hairdressers comply with the standards but still have insisted on the importance of inspections as a “reinforcing measure.”
And clients have been summoned to report any doubt or vestige of suffering from a ringworm outbreak to the establishment where they had their hair cut and immediately go to their doctor.
