Logroño, (EFE).- Logroño recovers this year a Carnival without sanitary restrictions derived from the pandemic; the traditional parade of floats will take place and the City Council will distribute 20,000 customizable masks among the students of the educational centers and municipal services.
It was announced this Thursday by the Councilor for Festejos, Kilian Cruz-Dunne, in an informative conference, in which he reported on the program and details of the organization.
The Carnival will be held from February 16, popularly known as ‘Lard Thursday’, until Sunday the 19th, which will conclude with the traditional ‘burial of the sardine’, he has indicated.
The parade will be held on Saturday, the 18th, and will start from Gonzalo de Berceo street, to continue along Marqués de Murrieta, Plaza de la Diversidad, Avenida de Portugal, Miguel Villanueva, Vara de Rey, Muro del Carmen, Muro de Cervantes, Avenida de la Paz, and end at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
The schools, the associations of parents of students, the groups of the elderly, the dance schools and the volunteer staff, among other groups, play a “fundamental” role in the parade, “at which time the streets of Logroño will be taken over with rhythm, music and color”.
The Logroño City Council has indicated that it has 5 platforms, the use of which is transferred to associations or groups that request and submit an elaborate project for the float, with plans and reproduction of its decorative elements, as well as the clothing and the number of people who will be in the vehicle, with a maximum of 15.
On the other hand, Cruz-Dunne has reported that the Logroño City Council is going to prepare a total of 20,000 masks that will be distributed in the city’s educational centers and other municipal services.
Said masks, he pointed out, will be customizable, “with the intention that children can bring out all their creativity”, so they will be printed with a perforation, which facilitates the tearing of certain parts, to “be able to convert, for example , the ears in horns or the tongue in teeth”.
