Madrid (EFE).- The shipping company Baleària celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2023. The company began its 25th anniversary events this Thursday, within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), with an event in which it reviewed the main milestones in its history and the company’s future plans, which include expansion in North Africa, the United States and the Caribbean, with which it intends to become “the global shipping company”.
The president of the company, Adolfo Utor, explained that, for the company, “maritime transport is essential for cohesion in Spain.”
For this reason, it has called for more government attention in the development of maritime infrastructure.
The event was attended by the Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant; the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig; the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Murillo; among others.
55 million passengers
Specifically, since its creation in 1998, Baleària has transported 55 million passengers, 12.5 million vehicles and 80 million linear meters of cargo.
In addition, it currently has a fleet of more than 30 boats and is present in six countries.
These are, in particular, Spain, Morocco, Algeria, France, the United States and the Bahamas.
“We do not diversify, we dedicate ourselves only to maritime transport, we dedicate ourselves to what we have learned and we believe we know how to do it well,” said Utor.
“All our resources are directed towards what we know how to do”, the manager highlighted.
On the economic level, he has detailed that more than 90% of the results remain for the growth of the company: “We do not distribute almost dividends.”
For his part, Puig has celebrated the anniversary of Baleària, which he has defined as “one of the most important companies in the Community”, of national importance.
In the current context, he said, for Spain it is very important to have organizations capable of offering “economic sovereignty” and an anchorage in the territorial sphere through mobility.
Economy from ethics: Baleària celebrates its 25 years
In this line, the Minister of Science and Innovation has recalled that the private sector has the responsibility of promoting the economy “from ethics”.
In this sense, he highlighted the example of Baleària as a positive reference in his environment.
Thus, Morant has described the company’s management and journey as “outstanding” for its sensitivity to issues such as sustainability, innovation and the environment.
anniversary acts
The anniversary of the shipping company will have a central act of commemoration, which will take place next June at its headquarters in Dénia (Alicante).
Utor has assured that “this year more than ever” they want to be close to what they consider to be their human capital: “passengers, carriers, suppliers, administrations, travel agencies, etc.”
